Veteran CPI(M) leader M M Lawrence, who played a pivotal role in Kerala's Communist uprising in 1950, passed away at the age of 95 on Saturday. According to party sources, Lawrence had been receiving treatment for age-related ailments at a private hospital for the past month.
Lawrence's body will be kept at his residence, the CPI(M) Ernakulam district committee office, and the town hall on Monday for the public to pay their last respects. Later in the day, the body will be donated to the Government Medical College Hospital, Ernakulam, fulfilling Lawrence's final wish.
Lawrence, a former Lok Sabha member representing Idukki, held various key positions within the CPI(M) and was a known figure in the struggle for India's independence. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan described him as a 'revolutionary and a strong leader of the Communist movement,' noting his significant contributions to the working-class struggle.
