Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Saturday visited the Cement Corporation of India (CCI) factory in Bokajan, Assam's Karbi Anglong district, emphasizing the region's untapped potential for benefiting locals.
Kumaraswamy, the minister for heavy industries and steel, held a meeting with members of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and district officials. KAAC chief advisor Elwin Teron submitted a memorandum highlighting low royalties from CCI and urging expanded CSR activities to reduce unemployment and boost skill development.
The minister assured thorough review of the memorandum with CCI and pledged to focus on Bokajan's development, including equipment upgrades and local employment. Kumaraswamy inaugurated a hot gas utilisation project and laid the foundation for a 1-MW solar PV plant, aligning with India's renewable energy goals.
