In a fervent demonstration of solidarity and outrage, the trade union and farmers' wings of the CPI(M) organized a rally in Kolkata on Saturday, demanding justice for the woman doctor who was heinously raped and murdered at RG Kar hospital last month.
The march, organized by the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) and Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), took a route from College Square to Shyambazar in the northern part of the city.
Protesters voiced their demands for severe punishment for the perpetrators and called for the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from her health and home department portfolios due to the handling of the case. The tragic demise of the postgraduate trainee doctor, whose body was discovered in a seminar hall at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, has triggered nationwide outrage and widespread protests across various societal sectors.
