Glasgow is poised to take over hosting duties for the 2026 Commonwealth Games following Victoria, Australia's departure from the role over escalating costs.

The Scottish city, which successfully hosted the 2014 Games, will stage a scaled-down event featuring 10 to 13 sports and utilizing existing facilities. The UK and Scottish governments will not use public funds, thanks to financial support from the Commonwealth Games Federation and a multi-million pound investment from Australian authorities.

Health Secretary Neil Gray highlighted concerns over comparisons with the 2014 event, but expressed optimism about Glasgow's ability to deliver a positive experience. CGF President Chris Jenkins endorsed the innovative, sustainable model proposed by Scotland.
