Nearly 100 idols have been immersed using mobile immersion units deployed by the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) since the onset of Ganesh festivities on September 7, an official reported on Friday.

On the first day, 27 idols were immersed, and by the fifth day, the number climbed to 99, said Ravindra Manjrekar, Public Relations Officer for TMC.

The mobile immersion units are vans that travel to different localities, allowing for the immersion of idols. This initiative was introduced by TMC Commissioner Saurabh Rao to ease overcrowding at traditional immersion sites.

In addition to these 99 immersions, a total of 26,904 idols, including 25,637 household figures and 175 public ones, have been immersed city-wide by Friday, according to TMC's Regional Disaster Management Cell Chief, Yasin Tadvi.

The Ganesh festivities, which began on September 7, will conclude on September 17, coinciding with Anant Chaturdashi.
