French judicial authorities have launched an investigation into the disappearance of two Paralympic athletes from Congo who recently participated in the Paris Games. This development was confirmed on Thursday by the prosecutor's office in Bobigny, a Paris suburb.

The inquiry commenced on September 7, following a report from the athletes' delegation regarding their disappearance two days prior. According to Le Parisien, the missing athletes are shot putter Mireille Nganga and visually impaired sprinter Emmanuel Grace Mouambako, who was guided by an assistant. Both athletes vanished on September 5, along with a third individual.

The athletes' suitcases are also missing; however, their passports are still with the Congolese delegation, as per an anonymous source not authorized to discuss the case publicly. The Paralympic Committee of the Democratic Republic of Congo has yet to respond to requests for information from The Associated Press. Notably, Nganga and Mouambako served as Congo's flag bearers at the Paralympic Games' opening ceremony.
