During his historic visit to Singapore, Pope Francis called on the nation to uphold the dignity and fair wages of migrant workers who contribute significantly to the country's development. Speaking at the University Cultural Centre, the Pope stressed on the indispensable role these workers play in society.
Pope Francis, 87, arrived in Singapore as part of his Asia-Pacific tour, which includes Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, and Timor-Leste. His visit marks the first papal presence in the city-state in 38 years, with the last visit being by Pope John Paul II in 1986.
Amidst tight security measures, the pontiff led a mass at the National Stadium, attended by around 50,000 people including top government officials. The event saw Pope Francis engage warmly with attendees, emphasizing Singapore's policies supporting the vulnerable and urging continued focus on the poor and elderly.
