In response to growing tension over the Sanjauli mosque in Shimla, a Muslim welfare committee has formally requested the municipal commissioner to seal the unauthorized sections of the mosque. They have also offered to demolish these sections in accordance with a court order.
The committee, comprising the mosque's Imam and members of the Waqf board and mosque management, presented their request to Municipal Commissioner Bhupendra Attri. They emphasized that Muslims in the area are long-term residents of Himachal Pradesh and the decision aims to preserve community harmony.
The move has been well received by Hindu organizations, who have been demanding action against unauthorized construction. On Wednesday, these groups had called for a bandh and staged protests to press for their demands.
