Pope Francis commended Singapore's economic prowess on Thursday but stressed the need for compassion towards foreign workers, urging the city-state to protect its most vulnerable. His remarks came as he wrapped up a tour of some of Asia's poorest nations with a final stop in one of the wealthiest.

Marking his arrival, Singapore unveiled a new hybrid orchid named 'Dendrobium His Holiness Pope Francis,' symbolizing serene beauty. The pope's schedule included meetings with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, and a speech at the National University of Singapore addressing competitiveness and social inclusion.

Francis highlighted the risks of prioritizing merit and pragmatism at the expense of excluding marginalized groups. He advocated for fair wages and dignified conditions for migrant workers, criticizing the lack of a minimum wage in Singapore. His visit also aimed to support the local Catholic community and promote interfaith harmony.
