Dr Muhammad Yunus, Bangladesh's Chief Adviser, on Wednesday underscored the need for fairness and equality in his country's relations with India and other neighboring nations.
In a televised address marking the first month of the interim government's formation, Yunus noted that leaders such as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani counterpart Shehbaz Sharif had congratulated him upon assuming office.
Yunus revealed that high-level bilateral talks with India have already begun, aimed at addressing issues like flooding. He also announced an initiative to revive the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) to bolster regional cooperation.
SAARC, which includes Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, is a key platform for regional dialogue. Yunus emphasized the aspiration for global recognition of Bangladesh as a respected democracy.
