Actor Sidharth Malhotra on Monday paid tribute to the 'real Shershaah', Captain Vikram Batra, on the occasion of his 50th birth anniversary. Malhotra took to Instagram to share a nostalgic photo from his visit to the National War Memorial in New Delhi, where he honored Batra's memory. Captain Vikram Batra lost his life valiantly fighting during the Kargil War in 1999.

Accompanying the photo, Malhotra wrote, 'Remembering Captain Vikram Batra (PVC), the real Shershaah, on his 50th birth anniversary. I am honored to have had the privilege of portraying him on screen. His courage and spirit continue to inspire us all.' 'Shershaah', the film, is a biographical account of Captain Batra's life and heroic acts.

The Kargil War, a fierce conflict fought over 60 days, concluded on July 26, 1999, with a decisive victory for India. Indian forces successfully reclaimed strategic high-altitude posts that had been covertly occupied by Pakistani troops. The victory, known as Kargil Vijay Diwas, is celebrated every year on July 26, honoring the soldiers who gave their lives for the nation.

Besides Sidharth Malhotra, the film 'Shershaah' stars Kiara Advani, Shiv Panditt, Raj Arjun, and others. In the film, Malhotra plays dual roles of Vikram Batra and his twin brother Vishal, with Advani portraying Dimple Cheema, Batra's girlfriend. Directed by Vishnu Varadhan, 'Shershaah' was released on August 12 and won the Special Jury Award at the 69th National Film Awards last year.
