The Western-backed Palestinian Authority held a solemn funeral procession on Monday for Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, a US-Turkish dual national and activist, who witnesses claim was shot by Israeli forces during a protest against West Bank settlements.
Dozens of mourners, including top Palestinian Authority officials, attended the event. Security personnel carried Eygi's body, draped in a Palestinian flag and a traditional scarf, to a waiting ambulance. Authorities are working on repatriating her remains to Turkey for burial in Didim.
Eyewitness Jonathan Pollak recounted that Israeli forces shot Eygi in Nablus during a calm period, causing her fatal injury. The Israeli military is currently investigating the report. The incident adds to the escalating violence in the West Bank amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
