Carrying a ton of medicine, musical instruments, and a message of love, Francis flew on a Royal Australian Air Force C-130 from Port Moresby to Vanimo.
In Vanimo, Francis encountered the local Catholic community and Argentine missionaries, urging them to drive out fear, superstition, and destructive behaviors like violence and exploitation, advocating for harmony and civic responsibility. An estimated 20,000 people gathered, celebrating his arrival with singing and dancing.
Francis' journey to Papua New Guinea highlighted his commitment to reaching marginalized communities. This expedition was a part of his larger tour of Southeast Asia and Oceania, emphasizing his focus on areas where Catholics are minorities and in need of support.
