Chief Minister M K Stalin, who is in the United States to drum up investments for Tamil Nadu, has called on the Tamil diaspora to engage with their heritage by visiting Tamil Nadu with their children at least once a year. He made these remarks during an event organized by Chicago-based Tamil associations on September 7.

Stalin expressed gratitude for the support from the Tamil community, emphasizing the state's rich cultural history. He discussed the 'Vergalai Thedi Thittam,' a cultural tour program aimed at young Tamil men and women living abroad, which has facilitated reconnections with their roots. Launched in Singapore on May 24, 2023, the scheme takes participants on guided tours of archaeological sites and places of cultural significance in Tamil Nadu.

Highlighting the government's efforts, including the establishment of a welfare board for non-resident Tamils and the observance of January 12 as diaspora day, Stalin said, ''This is not a government by a party, but a government of a race.'' He urged attendees to enlighten their children about Tamil culture and significant historical sites, such as Sivakalai, Korkai, and the Keeladi museum. Concurrently, the CM's US trip has resulted in MoUs worth over Rs 4,000 crore with multiple companies, aiming to boost investments in the state.
