Liverpool Legend Ron Yeats Passes Away at 86
Ron Yeats, a legendary Liverpool captain who led the club to six trophies in the 1960s, has passed away at the age of 86. Known for his colossal presence, Yeats was integral in elevating the club from the second division to champions. He had suffered from Alzheimer's in recent years.

Ron Yeats, who captained Liverpool to six trophies in the 1960s, has died at the age of 86, the club announced on Saturday.
Yeats had battled Alzheimer's disease in recent years, Liverpool stated. He passed away late Friday.
Signed from Dundee United in 1961, Yeats was immediately named captain and became a pivotal defender under Liverpool manager Bill Shankly, aiding in the club's rise from the second division.
Known for his towering 6-foot-2 frame, Shankly famously introduced Yeats by saying, "Walk around him, he's a colossus." Liverpool clinched the second division in Yeats' debut season and went on to win the first division in 1964 and 1966, along with the FA Cup in 1965.
"The thoughts of everyone at LFC are with Ron's wife, Ann, all of his family and his friends at this incredibly sad time," Liverpool said.
