Massive protests erupted across West Bengal on Friday as BJP activists blocked roads state-wide in response to the brutal rape and murder of a woman doctor in a state hospital. The protesters demanded justice for the victim and called for the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who also oversees the health and home departments.

In Kolkata, multiple key areas including Esplanade, Shyambazar, and Lake Town saw significant disruptions as BJP workers burnt tyres and shouted slogans. Traffic was paralyzed for hours, affecting various thoroughfares in north-central parts of the city. Similar scenes played out in districts like Birbhum, Paschim Bardhaman, and Paschim Medinpur.

A BJP spokesperson emphasized that the protests were against ongoing atrocities on women, citing the recent incident at R G Kar as a glaring example. Concurrently, members of the Coordination Committee of state government employees led a march demanding severe punishment for those involved, while decrying alleged tampering of evidence by hospital and police authorities.
