Indonesian police detained seven people in a failed plot to attack Pope Francis during his 12-day Asia-Pacific tour, which began in the archipelago on Friday.
The suspects were apprehended in Bogor and Bekasi, areas near Jakarta, according to a media statement by Indonesia's national police anti-terrorism squad Detachment-88, reported The Straits Times.
Continued investigations aim to establish whether the detainees knew each other or belonged to the same terror cell, said Detachment-88 spokesperson Aswin Siregar. They were mainly detained earlier in the week. Seized evidence includes bows, arrows, a drone, and ISIS leaflets, and some suspects had pledged allegiance to ISIS.
