Singer-songwriter Halsey has spoken out about how her recent dive into acting has aided in differentiating her stage persona from her identity as a musician. Best known to fans as Halsey, the artist—real name Ashley Nicolette Frangipane—has welcomed new roles in the films 'Americana' (2023) and 'Maxxxine' (2024).

In a revealing interview, Halsey stated that acting provides a refreshing break from her life as a musician. 'I always compare Halsey to Grey's Anatomy,' she told The Hollywood Reporter. 'Everyone who did Grey's Anatomy, they loved it, but after 25 seasons, they're like, I can't play Meredith anymore.'

Delving deeper, Halsey reflected, 'I felt like I was playing Halsey, which led to a greater existential question: Why do I feel like I'm playing Halsey? It's meant to be just a stage name, not necessarily a persona—it has grown into one, something I never really intended.'

While Halsey continues to use her stage name in acting, she appreciates the chance to portray characters distinct from herself, explaining, 'Acting allowed me to step out of my singer persona and let me partake in someone else's vision.'

The artist further expressed her joy in learning a new craft, stating, 'It was nice to be new at something, be part of a community, and collaborate. Being a solo artist is a really lonely venture. I don't think people realize how lonely it is.'

Halsey also shared her admiration for Britney Spears, specifically after interpolating Spears' hit song 'Lucky' into her new track of the same name. 'Obviously, I'll never experience the magnitude of fame and exposure that Britney faced, but there are some parallels,' she noted.

'She was the first pop star I loved, and I knew everything about her. I was in love with her, jealous of her, thought she had the perfect life, as did most of us. I've always rooted for her through every stage of her career,' Halsey added.
