UK Watchdog Scrutinizes Dynamic Pricing at Oasis Concert
The UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is investigating the dynamic pricing model used during the Oasis concert ticket sale. Thousands of fans faced long waits and higher costs. The CMA urges transparency from businesses using such pricing schemes and suggests it lacks current tools to effectively address the issue.
The UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced on Thursday it is scrutinizing the use of dynamic pricing in the recent sale of Oasis concert tickets. The watchdog revealed it is considering all potential actions against the practice, which led to inflated prices during the sale.
The CMA's letter to the government emphasized the need for businesses employing dynamic or complex pricing systems to maintain transparency about how prices are determined. The letter also pointed out that the current regulatory framework is inadequate to tackle these ongoing issues effectively.
The issue came to light after thousands of Oasis fans experienced extended virtual waiting times and escalated ticket prices for the band's reunion concerts slated for July 2025 in the UK and Ireland. The government has also pledged to investigate this pricing phenomenon more thoroughly.
