MotoGP promoter Dorna has extended its agreement with the governing body FIM, securing the rights to the motorcycle racing series until 2060, according to a joint statement released on Thursday. Dorna, based in Spain, has been the promoter of MotoGP since 1992.

Liberty Media, the U.S.-based rights holder for Formula One, announced in April its acquisition of Dorna, which values the MotoGP entity at 4.2 billion euros ($4.66 billion). In this deal, Liberty Media will acquire approximately 86% of Dorna, while the existing Dorna management retains around 14% of its equity. The transaction is slated for completion by the end of 2024.

Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta praised the extended agreement with FIM. "This is fantastic news for the sport and our global fans. This long-term partnership ensures that we can continue to develop MotoGP, which has become something truly special," Ezpeleta remarked. "Securing such a prolonged agreement enhances the value of MotoGP significantly."
