Three children lost their lives in Panchkula on Wednesday when a brick kiln wall collapsed on them as they sought shelter from a heavy downpour, according to local police.
The victims included a seven-year-old girl and two boys aged 5 and 2.5 years. They were playing near the kiln, where their parents were employed as laborers, when the rain began.
The children took cover near the wall, which then gave way, burying them beneath the rubble. Despite being taken to a nearby hospital, all three were pronounced dead upon arrival, stated Raipur Rani Station House Officer Sukhbir Singh. The children's parents have been residents of Panchkula for 15 years and originally hail from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh.
