Amid ongoing statewide protests against the alleged rape and murder of a doctor at state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, senior TMC MP Sukhendu Sekhar Ray on Wednesday urged the public to reclaim their right to live with dignity as enshrined in the Constitution of India.

His post, which called for people to 'Reclaim the Night,' came ahead of the second protest on Wednesday. Protesters are scheduled to gather at various key spots in Kolkata and other areas across West Bengal. Earlier protests saw college students, home-makers, and ordinary citizens congregate in key thoroughfares demanding justice for the deceased trainee doctor, whose body was discovered on August 9.

In August, Ray chose to avoid further confrontation with his party's government by deleting a social media post regarding the alleged crime. He had demanded 'custodial interrogation' of RG Kar Medical College's former principal Sandip Ghosh and Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal for their alleged mishandling of the case. Despite legal challenges, Ray asserted his support for the public's spontaneous mass protests.
