Indians are increasingly embracing international travel, with a 32% rise in those jetting abroad twice or more each year, reveals a report from MakeMyTrip. Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Delhi top the list for international travel searches, according to the 'How India Travels Abroad' report.

The report, covering June 2023 to May 2024, highlights that traditional favorites like the UAE, Thailand, and the US dominate the travel charts, with Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Bhutan as emerging hotspots. December is the peak month for travel inquiries.

Rajesh Magow, Co-founder and Group CEO of MakeMyTrip, attributes the trend to increased disposable incomes and exposure to global cultures. A 70% surge in search volumes for emerging destinations and a notable interest in luxury travel underline shifting travel patterns. Hong Kong leads with a remarkable 131% increase in searches, and nearly half of hotel bookings are over Rs 7,000 per night. Budget-friendly options include destinations like Pokhara, Pattaya, and Kuala Lumpur.
