A family of four allegedly took their lives by consuming poison in Chhattisgarh's Janjgir-Champa district, as per police reports on Sunday.
On Friday, the family was discovered in a critical state and succumbed while undergoing treatment across different hospitals a day later. Panchram Yadav (66), a former Congress district unit official, along with his wife Dinesh Nandini (55) and their sons Suraj (27) and Neeraj (32), resided in Bodha Talab, under the Kotwali police jurisdiction, authorities confirmed.
Janjgir-Champa Additional Superintendent of Police Rajendra Jaiswal revealed, ''The family ingested poison on August 30 and were initially taken to the district hospital. Neeraj was later moved to the Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) in Bilaspur, while the others were transferred to a private hospital.''
No suicide note was recovered, leaving the reasons behind this act unclear. An accidental death report was filed. Preliminary investigations suggest the family sealed the house's front gate from outside before consuming the poison. Neighbors, alerted by a concerned local who noted the closed gate, broke in and transported the family to the hospital.
Residents revealed the Yadav family was troubled by debt. Panchram was a civil works contractor, and his sons had recently encountered severe losses in their fabrication business.
