Leaders of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi on Sunday led a protest march from the iconic Hutatma Chowk to the Gateway of India in South Mumbai. The march was in response to the collapse of a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra.

The statue of the 17th-century Maratha warrior king, situated at Rajkot fort in Malvan tehsil and unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 4, 2023, fell on August 26. This incident has sparked significant public outrage.

NCP (SP) supremo Sharad Pawar, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray, and Congress state unit chief Nana Patole initiated the protest by laying wreaths at Hutatma Chowk. They were joined by other prominent leaders and citizens, marching peacefully to give voice to the anger over the statue's collapse just eight months after its unveiling.
