Olympic wrestler Vinesh Phogat on Saturday stood in solidarity with protesting farmers at the Shambhu border between Punjab and Haryana. She urged the central government to prioritize addressing the farmers' demands, which include a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP).
The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha marked the 200th day of their 'Delhi Chalo' agitation with a 'kisan mahapanchayat' to press for their demands. The farmers have been protesting at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points since February 13 after being stopped by security forces.
Phogat, recently disqualified from the 50-kg final match at the Paris Olympics, was felicitated by the farmers. In her address, she emphasized the legitimacy of the farmers' demands and urged the government to listen. Phogat expressed her distress over the farmers' continued protests and highlighted their role in feeding the nation despite their own challenges.
