Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced on Friday that a grand statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj would be erected at the site of the collapsed structure in Rajkot Fort, located in the state's Sindhudurg district.
The statue of the 17th-century Maratha warrior at Rajkot Fort in Sindhudurg's Malvan tehsil collapsed on August 26. This event led to severe criticism from the opposition, who claimed that the fall of a figure of such monumental reverence had wounded Maharashtra's pride.
'Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is a 'Yugpurush'—a leader for the ages. He embodies the pride and faith of our state and nation. The incident at Rajkot Fort is indeed unfortunate. However, the Maharashtra government and the Navy will soon erect another grand statue,' Shinde stated, addressing a gathering at the inauguration of the 'Shivsrushti' project in Nandgaon.
Shinde lauded the 'Shivsrushti' project as a landmark development for Nandgaon city and announced a Rs 10 crore grant for constructing a new municipal council building.
