Basel to Host 2025 Eurovision Song Contest
Basel has been selected to host the Eurovision Song Contest in May 2025. The decision comes after singer Nemo's victory this year. Basel was chosen due to its transport connections, hotel capacity, security, sustainability, and experience with large events. The final will be held at St Jakobshalle.
Next year's Eurovision Song Contest will take place in the Swiss city of Basel, public broadcaster SRG announced on Friday.
Beating out Geneva, Basel was selected to host the renowned event in May 2025, following singer Nemo's victory in this year's competition held in Malmo, Sweden. The choice was based on criteria such as transport connections, hotel capacity, security, and sustainability.
Additional factors included the availability of suitable venues, waste management, and experience with large-scale events. Reto Peritz and Moritz Stader, co-executive producers of the ESC, congratulated Basel, expressing their excitement for a memorable event. The grand final, which garnered 163 million viewers globally this year, will be held on May 17 at St Jakobshalle, a venue with a capacity of 12,000 Eurovision fans. Besides Geneva, Zurich, Bern, and Nemo's hometown Biel also vied to host the event but were unsuccessful.
