In a startling incident, Marathi filmmaker Swapna Waghmare Joshi's sixth-floor apartment in Mumbai was the site of a theft. A 22-year-old man, identified as Aniket Gounder, allegedly stole Rs 6,000 on August 25. The accused, who admitted to using the stolen money to purchase drugs, was arrested days later on August 28.

Police reports indicate Gounder climbed the security grill to the fifth floor, made his way to the sixth floor, and escaped the same way. The entire act was recorded on the CCTV cameras at Joshi's residence. The director's cat raised the alarm, waking up Joshi's daughter and son-in-law, whose shouts prompted the thief to flee, Mumbai police confirmed.

Guided by CCTV footage, the investigation team, headed by Inspector Jaywant Shinde under DCP Raj Tilak Roshan, tracked and apprehended Gounder from Kapaswadi, Versova, approximately 2 km from the scene. The police disclosed that during interrogation, the accused confessed to buying drugs with the stolen money, identifying himself as an addict.
