A Viking ship replica named Naddodd capsized off the coast of Norway earlier this week, resulting in the death of a US citizen, police confirmed on Thursday.

The wooden ship, manned by an international crew of six, was traversing the North Atlantic from the Faeroe Islands to Norway when it encountered severe weather. On Tuesday night, the vessel capsized near Stad, 346 kilometers from Oslo.

Survivors reported that weather conditions suddenly worsened, with waves reaching up to 5 meters in height. Five crew members managed to reach an inflatable life raft and were airlifted to safety by a helicopter. Unfortunately, archaeologist Karla Dana, who was trapped under the capsized vessel, drowned. Her body was recovered on Wednesday.
