Indian students have demonstrated exceptional talent by securing one gold and four silver medals at the 17th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) held in Brazil.

Among the winners, Daksh Tayalia from Bengaluru clinched the gold medal, while Aayush Kuthari and Sanidhya Saraf from Pune, Banibrata Majee from Hyderabad, and Panini from Bihar took home silver medals. This achievement was announced by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education-Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (HBCSE-TIFR).

The Indian delegation, led by Prof. Bhargav Vaidya from IIT-Indore and Pritesh Ranadive from HBCSE-TIFR, included several scientific observers from prestigious institutions. This year's IOAA saw participation from 232 students representing 52 countries. India ranked eighth in the medals tally, which was led by Iran followed by the US, and several other countries. The competition tested participants in theory, observation, and data analysis.

Next year's IOAA will be hosted by India in Mumbai in August.
