Kerala Honors Mahatma Ayyankali: Champion of Social Equality

Kerala celebrated the 161st birth anniversary of Mahatma Ayyankali, a pivotal social reformer who challenged caste-based oppression and promoted equality. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and other leaders highlighted his impactful work, including the Villuvandi journey and the fight for Dalit education. Ayyankali's legacy continues to inspire contemporary movements against social injustice.

Kerala commemorated the 161st birth anniversary of Mahatma Ayyankali on Wednesday. Ayyankali, who lived from 1863 to 1941, was a seminal figure in the fight against caste-based oppression in the erstwhile princely state of Travancore.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan praised Ayyankali for empowering the oppressed and challenging caste-based restrictions. Highlighting the significant Villuvandi journey and the 'Kallumala' struggle, Vijayan said these acts reshaped Kerala's social fabric.

Other leaders, including Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan and Minister O R Kelu, also paid tribute, emphasizing Ayyankali's enduring influence on social justice movements in Kerala.
