Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that a larger statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj would be erected to replace the collapsed 35-foot statue in Sindhudurg. The original statue, unveiled in December 2022, fell due to high winds and rust issues. An inquiry is underway, and opposition parties have criticized the government.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has pledged to erect a larger statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the same Sindhudurg site where a 35-foot statue recently collapsed.
The original statue, unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last December, fell due to high winds and rust from ocean exposure, Fadnavis explained. The statue's construction was overseen by the Navy, not the state government.
An investigation is ongoing, with state leaders defending their handling of the incident against political attacks. Officials have reported rust issues and local police have charged those responsible.
