Mohan, the illustrious Malayalam filmmaker and screenplay writer, passed away at 76 in a private hospital, following a prolonged illness, industry sources disclosed on Tuesday.

Known for his poetic depiction of inner conflicts and family values, Mohan was an iconic figure during the golden era of Malayalam cinema in the 1980s, alongside legends like Bharathan and Padmarajan. His acclaimed films include 'Pakshe,' 'Shalini Ente Koottukari,' and 'Isabella.'

Originally from Irinjalakuda, he started his career assisting notable directors like M Krishnan Nair and Hariharan. Mourning his loss, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed that Mohan's exceptional skill in presenting emotional family stories made his demise a significant loss to Malayalam film. Mohan is survived by his wife, renowned Kuchipudi dancer Anupama, and two children.
