Amid unprecedented security measures, Janmastami and the death anniversary of VHP leader Swami Laxmananda Saraswati were observed peacefully across Kandhamal district and other parts of Odisha on Monday.

Armed personnel were stationed at vulnerable locations to ensure the celebrations proceeded without incident. Balliguda sub-collector Reena Pradhan confirmed the peaceful observance, particularly at the ashrams in Chakapada and Jalespata.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan paid their respects to Saraswati, describing him as a significant social reformer who worked tirelessly for the downtrodden and upheld local culture. A marathon organized by the RSS in Bhubaneswar drew hundreds of participants, including students, to commemorate Saraswati's death anniversary.
