Noted Malayalam actor Siddique has resigned as the general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (A.M.M.A.) following serious sexual assault allegations levelled by a woman actor on August 24.

Speaking to the media, Siddique confirmed that he had formally submitted his resignation letter to the President of the organisation, acclaimed actor Mohanlal. He stated, "Yes, I have tendered my official resignation to the president of the organisation, Mohanlal. Since there were allegations against me, I have decided not to continue in the post and resigned."

The allegations of abuse have emerged amid ongoing discussions about sexual harassment within the Malayalam film industry, ignited by the release of the Justice Hema Committee report. The report has brought to light numerous instances of harassment and exploitation, catalyzing calls for action against the guilty parties. Various members of A.M.M.A., including vice president Jayan Cherthala and actors such as Anoop Chandran and Mala Parvathy, have supported Siddique's decision to step down, citing ethical and moral imperatives.
