A senior engineer from the Bihar Water Resources Department had a narrow escape after falling into the Ganga river while inspecting an embankment in Bhagalpur district on Saturday.

Engineer Anwa Jamil, who serves as the Katihar Zone Chief Engineer, was on a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) motor boat when the incident occurred. He had been evaluating repair work on the 8.26-km Ismailpur-Bindtoli embankment, which was damaged by rising water levels on August 20, leading to floods in several regions, including Karari Teentanga and Budhchak.

Eyewitnesses reported that Jamil suddenly fell into the river and was promptly rescued by NDRF personnel. Expressing his gratitude, Jamil said, "I got another life today. I am thankful to the NDRF personnel who immediately rescued me." Repair work on the embankment is ongoing and is expected to be completed soon, despite challenges posed by incessant rainfall.
