The student, youth, and women wings of CPI(M) held a protest rally in Kolkata against the police notices sent to some of their leaders. These notices were regarding the alleged vandalism at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where a woman doctor was raped and murdered.
The state committees of SFI, DYFI, and AIDWA organised the rally amidst heavy rain. They marched from College Street towards Lalbazar, the headquarters of Kolkata Police.
However, police set up barricades to halt the rally mid-way. The organizations claimed the police notices were connected to vandalism during a demonstration on August 15. Junior doctors were protesting the rape-murder incident and demanding better workplace security. Rally participants held placards demanding justice for the victim.
