Kolkata Unites: Protests Over Doctor's Tragic Demise

Numerous protests erupted across Kolkata following the rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Students, educators, journalists, and tech professionals demanded swift justice. Various social groups also joined in to call for a fast investigation and stringent punishment for the accused.

Rallies and demonstrations swept across Kolkata on Friday, despite intermittent showers, to protest the rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Professors, students, and non-teaching staff from Jadavpur University formed a human chain along Raja SC Mallick Road and demanded exemplary punishment for the accused at a subsequent meeting.

Presidency University's main campus also witnessed a demonstration, where students, faculty, and alumni called for a fast investigation. Journalists marched from Y Channel in Esplanade to Maidan, urging the government to ensure the safety of working women.

In the IT sector hub, Sector 5, around 300 tech professionals held a rally—marking the third protest over three days—seeking justice for the deceased. Various other social groups and educational institutions across the state held similar protests, demanding a stringent investigation and punishment for the crime.

The postgraduate trainee doctor was attacked while on duty at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, sparking nationwide outrage.
