Delhi Lt Governor Appoints DMs as Administrators Amid Shelter Home Deaths

Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena has appointed district magistrates as ex-officio administrators of three shelter homes following the death of 14 inmates. The appointments aim to improve conditions at Asha Kiran, Asha Jyoti, and Asha Deep shelter homes, which house intellectually disabled patients.

In response to the recent tragedy at the Asha Kiran shelter home, where 14 inmates died, Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena has taken significant action. He has nominated the district magistrates of northwest, west, and north districts as ex-officio administrators of three critical shelter homes.

The Services Department issued an order on August 20, detailing that Saxena's directions are aimed at ensuring better management and oversight. The northwest district magistrate will oversee Asha Kiran, the west district magistrate will administer Asha Jyoti, and the north district magistrate will manage Asha Deep.

The Asha Jyoti home focuses on women with intellectual disabilities, while Asha Deep serves male inmates with similar challenges. These appointments come amid increasing concerns about the conditions and care provided in these facilities.
