At least 55 protesters have been arrested following violent clashes with police in Chicago during the Democratic National Convention. Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling described the situation as "a danger to our city."
The confrontations began near the Israeli Consulate, approximately two miles from the United Center, where Democrats were convening. Demonstrators charged at police, who responded by containing them several times throughout the night.
Two people were hospitalized due to injuries, while two officers also sustained injuries but refused medical attention to remain with fellow officers. Three journalists were also arrested. More rallies are expected in the coming days.
