Bangladesh's interim government announced the establishment of a foundation led by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus to support those affected by the recent student-led protests. The protests led to the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government.
The initiative aims to assist the wounded and families of the deceased, including 44 police officers, following the upheaval over a controversial quota system in government jobs that began in mid-July 2024.
The foundation will be headed by Yunus, with student representatives and family members of the victims involved in its operations. Sheikh Hasina, 76, resigned and fled to India as protests escalated, and multiple murder cases have been filed against her for the deaths during the police crackdown.
