Students from different organizations at Delhi University staged a protest on Tuesday, condemning the rape and murder of a junior doctor at a Kolkata hospital. They rallied on campus, calling for stronger women's safety measures and justice for the victim.
Led by All India Students Association (AISA) and Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYS), the students marched outside the Arts Faculty, holding posters and banners with slogans like 'India should unite for women safety,' 'reclaim the streets,' and 'smash patriarchy.'
The demonstrators demanded action against the perpetrators and a transparent investigation into the tragedy. The incident, which took place on August 9 at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, has sparked nationwide protests. Members of several doctors' associations have also been on an indefinite strike, disrupting healthcare services, and are calling for a comprehensive Central Protection Act to ensure healthcare worker safety.
