Hollywood star Nicolas Cage is set to portray the legendary American football coach, John Madden, in an upcoming film directed by David O. Russell. Titled 'Madden', the film comes from Amazon MGM Studios and will be written, directed, and produced by Russell, known for critically-acclaimed movies such as 'Three Kings', 'The Fighter' and 'American Hustle'.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 'Madden' is not a typical biopic but a film partially focused on the origin story of 'Madden NFL', one of the most successful video game franchises of all time. Madden, who passed away in 2021 at the age of 85, was the head coach of the Oakland Raiders in the 1970s and led the team to multiple championships and its first Super Bowl victory. After retiring from coaching in 1979, Madden became a popular television football commentator for three decades.

The film will also feature Todd Black as a producer, along with Escape Artists' Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, and Jonathan Shukat. David Bloomfield will serve as executive producer. Cage, an Oscar-winning actor known for roles in 'Leaving Las Vegas', 'Pig', and 'The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent', currently stars in 'Longlegs'.
