Just-retired India goalkeeper PR Sreejesh is celebrated as a legend and a source of inspiration for the next generation of hockey players in the country. His teammates expressed admiration on Saturday, after returning from the Paris Olympics with a second successive bronze medal.

India, eight-time Olympic champions, secured a bronze medal in Paris by defeating Spain 2-1 in the play-off match. The last time India won Olympic hockey gold was in 1980. Forward Lalit Upadhyay lauded the veteran player, calling him 'The Great Wall' and highlighting his contributions to the game and the nation.

Lalit also thanked the country for its overwhelming support for the sport, noting the increasing love and enthusiasm for hockey. Special praise was reserved for skipper Harmanpreet Singh, who scored 10 goals to become the tournament's highest scorer and earn the nickname 'Sarpanch'.
