Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Thursday congratulated Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, who was sworn in as the head of Bangladesh's interim government. The nation is in turmoil following the abrupt resignation of Sheikh Hasina and deadly protests against her controversial quota system in jobs.
Gandhi extended his congratulations to Yunus through a post on X, recognizing the urgent need for a swift restoration of peace. Yunus, 84, took the oath of office administered by President Mohammed Shahabuddin during a ceremony at the presidential palace, 'Bangabhaban'.
A 16-member council of advisers has been appointed to support Yunus in managing the state's affairs. Among the advisors are Md Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud, prominent organisers of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
