On the 83rd death anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, the Congress party has expressed concerns about the dishonouring of his legacy, attributing the decline to the ruling ideology they describe as 'anchored in prejudice, bigotry, and divisiveness.'

Tagore, a multifaceted talent as a poet, playwright, composer, philosopher, painter, and reformer, holds the distinction of being the first Asian Nobel laureate. He is also celebrated for writing the national anthem of India, and profoundly influencing the authors of the national anthems of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

According to Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh, Tagore's contributions are being undermined in his own country. Ramesh's statement highlights the perceived assault on Tagore's legacy which, he claims, is being dishonoured daily.
