A senior Indian diplomat has highlighted the crucial role of shared democratic values in bolstering the India-US relationship.

Dr. K. Srikar Reddy, Consul General of India in San Francisco, made these remarks at the 'Celebrating the Resiliency of Democracies' event in Milpitas, California, over the weekend.

The event, organized by the Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora Studies (FIIDS), marked the independence days of the US and India. Reddy stated that the India-US partnership would define the century and credited democratic values for its strength. He praised FIIDS for educating people on the differences between the two democracies.

Milpitas Mayor Carmen Montano welcomed leaders, expressing her pleasure to host the celebration of resilient democracies. California Assembly member Alex Lee and Alameda County Supervisor David Haubert lauded the Indian community's contributions to the state's culture and economy. Fremont Mayor Lily Mei also noted the Indian diaspora's growing involvement in US politics.

Proclamations were presented by Mayor Lisa Gillmore and Mayor Montano to FIIDS, acknowledging their role in uniting community and elected leaders around the world's oldest and largest democracies.

During a panel discussion, FIIDS' Khanderao Kand urged for more active Indian diaspora participation in US politics. Ajay Jain Bhatoria similarly emphasized the impact of organizations like FIIDS on policies such as immigration.
