Gandhi-Mandela Award Honors Rigoberta Menchu and Victor Gonzalez Torres

Guatemalan activist Rigoberta Menchu Tum and Mexican politician and businessman Victor Gonzalez Torres have been honored with the prestigious Gandhi-Mandela Award for their exceptional contributions to human rights and healthcare, respectively.
Menchu's relentless efforts for the rights of the indigenous population and her work in ethno-cultural reconciliation have garnered her several international accolades, including the 1992 Nobel Peace Prize and the 1998 Princess of Asturias Award.
The Gandhi-Mandela Foundation, in a statement, noted that Menchu's work continues to inspire and lead the global fight for indigenous rights. The award ceremony took place on Friday in Mexico.
The Gandhi Mandela Foundation, chaired by Swami Avdheshanand Giri, is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the values of non-violence championed by Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela.
The award includes a medal and a certificate signed by a jury of five former Chief Justices and former Supreme Court judges from India, Nepal, and Bangladesh.
