The FX historical drama 'Shogun' has emerged as the leading contender in this year's Emmy Awards nominations, garnering a total of 25 nods. The first season of the sweeping tale set in feudal Japan will compete for the coveted best drama trophy, going head-to-head with formidable competitors such as Netflix's 'The Crown' and Apple TV+'s 'The Morning Show.'
Joining the fray, FX's 'The Bear,' a gripping restaurant drama, made headlines with a record-breaking 23 nominations in the comedy category. The series aims to retain its title for best comedy, having clinched the award at the previous Emmys. Other notable comedy contenders include ABC's 'Abbott Elementary' and HBO's 'Hacks.'
In the limited series category, Netflix's 'Baby Reindeer,' inspired by the real-life experiences of creator and star Richard Gadd, received 11 nominations. It faces stiff competition from FX's 'Fargo' and HBO's 'True Detective: Night Country.'
Netflix topped the nominations leaderboard with 107, followed closely by FX with 93, and Warner Bros Discovery's HBO and Max with 91. The Emmy winners will be revealed in a live broadcast on ABC on Sept. 15, chosen by nearly 22,000 members of the Television Academy.
The current Emmy season features 36 first-time nominees, including five actors from 'Shogun,' and stars like Jodie Foster for her role in 'True Detective.' 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' star Larry David also earned nods, celebrating the recognition of his signature brand of humor.
